We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

Another Spin on Halloween

This was Costume B. Once the Superman costume was worn for the Trunk or Treat, he was storm trooper Lukas *(a donation from a neighbor that week). So when trick or treating with his buddy Finn tonight he wants to wear it.

Here are pics from the playgroup party:
(Awww, April!! Who's  since moved!!)

Here are all the pictures from the Ward Trunk or Treat. We went SUPERMAN themed, which was funny since I really just wanted to wear a wig and have us match. So I tried a few, came up with something for Lois Lane, and Jared was a bit not-thrilled to have a painted face. No masks are allowed so he had to dress like robber without the face sash. And then he said he felt bad because he thought people gave him dirty looks. The EQ president as a bank robber. Hee hee. What else could he have been??

The coolest part of the Trunk or Treat ward party was that friends from Davis came through town and got to come WITH us!!! Yayyy!! People to sit by at a ward thing!! I adore Angela and her ability to communicate. Really, she is masterful at it. We have the best discussions about life, and how it's really going. And since at the time it wasn't going great, I appreciated the sounding board until the wee hours of the morning. Her family LOVES Halloween, and it was super fun for Lukas to have buddies to hang out with and dig through candy stashes with! Thanks Jill for a rare family picture!!

p.s. It was really fun to be blonde for a day :) And why why why do I have no pics of Angela???

And as if the trunk or treat didn't yield enough sugar, we headed out Halloween Night to our friends the Saabe's so Lukas could trick or treat (for real) for the first time. Man! He had that knocking thing down FAST! He'd lean in, give it a good knock, then wait so patiently. It was aDORable!! And of course, we, his totally doting parents, could be seen 'awww'ing at the end of the walk. Gotta say, though, some of those gruesome yards were a quick walk to pass, but the neighbor with the video playing on his garage door was genious- heat lamps set up and everything! (And hey, less candy collected if the kids watch a movie, right??) They got back to the house, sorted candy, ate some, and warmed themselves by the fire. Because I'm sure it was just "freezing" in the 60s or something.

Bates Nut Farm

Nothing will ever replace Davis, CA's Grandpa's Barn for us, but when I saw a farm in the area with tractor rides and animals to pet, off we went! Lukas even got to ride a pony, walk through a hay-maze, and humor me by walking through the ginormous barn/kitsch shop. (The old fashioned candy we were going to try was a huge help to that part of the adventure.) We saw jillions of school kids, and I felt glad that we could take as long as we wanted, could enjoy the peace of not being corralled from one area to the next, and could have some time just taking in the cute animals there! Lukas especially seems drawn to goats. Makes me wish we had a larger piece of land with a goat to help mow the lawn. He's so careful and sweet with animals, and my mommy heart fills with joy seeing my little boy in that light. So kind. So careful. Wanting to pet instead of scare them.

We saw the funniest signs in the Christmas shop, and I wouldn't buy them, but found them clever =)
At the end we watched livestock, and the little man was especially amused by the pooping donkey, of course, and even asked me to borrow the camera to take a picture. Haha!!

Piggy Bank

Lukas was so excited to take his piggy bank into Bank of America. We were going to get it counted, so he could bring it to the store when we went shopping. Visions of gum were dancing in his head. We waited in line, stared at ourselves in the security video camera TVs, and got to the counter only to get handed a coin sorter. So, not wanting this to be a fail, we plopped ourselves down and sorted out a ton of small coins. Just over $5 worth. He was a happy camper to have "so much" money. And the major bonus of all of this was the powerful lesson learned that afternoon at the store. "Can I buy this?" he would ask. And every time I would say, "Yes! It costs _____!" to which he often would say, "Oh." and put it back. But GUM! Gum he could afford! So he bought gum. And mom bought groceries. And it was a great day.

Friends who appear in a drought. Godsent!

Living near Disneyland has a major bonus. Not because we visit the mouse infested theme park, but because others who DO, are close enough to meet up with!!! We got to see some sweet dear friends, Bo & Jordan, and at such a great time when I was very appreciative of supportive friends in my life!! Here Lukas and Aria try out the "new" recliner. What someone no longer wanted is our newest joy-ride in the house! "Wheeeeeee!" And Aria got to see her "godfather" Jared. :) Sure so adore these guys and am so glad they could stop by!!!!
