We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

Apparently it is a war-zone out here.

Photo: Apparently it is a war-zone out here.
This moment was captured during a spontaneous trip to the beach on an overcast day. A dry beach day, we call it. We happened to run into a woman from the ward with her two boys there, who took right to playing with Lukas. They'd built a bunker and would jump out occasionally and shoot at things. Imaginary can't see-em kind of things. They.Had.A.Ball!!!!

Then this other kid came over. A number of socially awkward moments ensued. Looking back, it's funny how we consider the awesomeness of our own kids when confronted with a 6 year old with smoker's cough (second hand smoke anyone?), whose mom even jumped into the boys' soccer game to "show him how it's done" and would yell at him about every little thing... in her overbearing, deep raspy voice. The kid would jump, hit, kick and not let up sometimes while playing with the other three. I felt bad for the kid, living in that family. Reminded me of Pete's Dragon.  Makes me always stop, take note of what we're doing, and feel grateful for my little boy and all the personality he has and is, and all the time and energy it takes to do what we do in our family.

Aahh, the beach! A child's paradise where he can go as far as his imagination will take him. Bonus: no "social police" to tell the boys that they can't "shoot" at make believe things! I love it when kids can just be kids.
