We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

Pioneer Day Spiderman

Never had a major face paint...until today: Spiderman for pioneer day. We got there early for our shift of shucking corn. Juuuuust a few hundred to pull open- that's all. There was a flag raising, some patriotic singing, and some tours of the Nauvoo Temple, built by the Spanish Branch. (Is it just me or are Spanish Branches in most places more dedicated/get-it-done-ish when it comes to big events? I've seen some major big things pulled off in the last couple stakes I've been in. I tend to think the Spanish Branches know more how to sacrifice & work hard and are perhaps less whiny. But I don't mean to over-stereotype.) There were pie eating contests, chances to square dance with professionals, drink homemade rootbeer and eat homemade ice cream, & roast weenies over different kinds of makeshift ovens/heat sources. There was a huuuuuge set up about provident living with how to can, tons of samples to try, things to use, homemade jams, etc. aMAZing! There was even a scout master out there hammering glowing metal on an anvil- showing his blacksmith skills. Lukas loved the inflatable slide and face paint. Once there, we called his friend Jacob's mom, texting her pictures of the event and hoping they would come, and they DID! Lukas and Jacob had fun together, and the parents were very impressed with the story of the Nauvoo temple and the display that people made for this event. She's also interested in canning beans with me sometime, and enjoyed that preparedness display. A really kind man from the stake presidency came over and talked to them too and Jose (the Papa) said later how wonderful it was to be there and that they had a great time. He thanked us for inviting him, and said how impressed he was with all the people, how the kids were with each other (big kids pulled covered wagons for the small ones) and that they are a beautiful people. We remain friends with them, and invite them to things all the time. I watch Jacob twice a week while Anna does some college courses, and love that Lukas gets a chance to play with a best friend often.

Ants Attack

It was as if we were moving. All of this stuff, just from the kitchen. Covered shortly thereafter with a tarp against the ant spray that would rain down in our entire kitchen/entry area, after finding the Ants on the Oregon Trail to Sugarville. Good grief. Just like in the movies. But not in a good way. Pools of ant killer on the counter. But they say it's not harmless. But it kills ants. And it is all over the counters. Hmmm....

We spent the day in Coronado at our neighbor's baseball game. He is Lukas' buddy and the pitcher of the high school baseball team. It's not uncommon to hear Lukas yelling, "Hiiiiiii Roderick!!!" as he leaves the house for school, or comes home. And he happily calls back "Hey Buddy!" We watched him pitch and win a game before heading to the beach.

4th of July. We got Papili back!!

Got dad back after almost a month AND saw amazing fireworks at Brengle Park. Awesome day!!!

4th of July at Farnsworths

It is Farnsworth Tradition to have a water balloon fight on the 4th of July. So fight, we did, and wet and sopping were the troops after the onslaught. Only minor casualties were sustained, yielding a few naked boys in the end. Luckily we had warm dry clothes in the car, and the boys had a blast playing the afternoon away. Tonight, Papa would be coming home, and distraction during anxious times are a true blessing. They hammed for some pictures. (Also noticed  Lukas' superhero poses didn't disappoint.) He really likes to play with Dexter (who is 6 months+ older), and I was super grateful that they invited us to hang out with them!
