We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

Rest in Peace Struppie

The goldfish died. Lukas insisted that he was just dreaming. ("Er träumt nur!") Then when Jared gave him burial at sea, he asked Lukas if he wanted to say anything. He said, "Struppi, I miss you. And I hope you have fun!" And requested we all sing " I am a child of God" to end. I tried so hard to keep from laughing out loud at the juxtaposition of his earnest singing with the swirling water.

Grateful for Lukas' ability to see humor in it, amidst his sadness. Later when going potty he just yelled, "Struppi hinterher!" and carried on with his business. Ahhh, the perspective of youth.

We filled his fishbowl with stones from the beach, and Lukas chose a candle at IKEA to remember him by. (First, he brings me this massive foot-tall beast of a candle, before we both see smaller ones, including the ball-shaped round one he finally chose. Whew!
