We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

Freedom to make Tanks from Beer Kegs

On the Fourth, we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy in the United States... Freedoms we most certainly take for granted most of the time.

Freedom to play the piano in an apt building (Refer to the book: Beethoven's 39 Apartments)

Freedom to explore hills, dales, and dusty trails, as the Lukas goes rolling along.

Freedom to assemble in large parades.

Freedom to join in, even though you had no previous knowledge of there being one!

We were so glad we got to see Lukas to his first 4th of July Bike Parade at the 4th of July breakfast.

The Stake Center is absolutely huge (2 chapels, 2 gyms, 2 stories) and they don't mess around with breakfast here! Crepes with berries, sausage, ham, eggs, plate-sized pancakes with blueberries in em, fruit-- it was aMAzing! I was glad our new friend Jill from across the street could come with us!

That afternoon when we got home, Andrea called and invited us to come down into San Diego for some afternoon barbecuing and fireworks. We had great food, great company, and as usual, I was amazed at Andrea's awesome party decor. I took pictures for later reference :)

Lukas got to be in his second 4th of July Bike Parade this day, and was so excited about the few streamers I attached. He's a total minimalist in this regard. Give him a little of something and he's pretty happy- unless it's food that is.

Jared took turns at the grill with Ryan.

Jakob, Leah and Lukas chowed down some Independence Day hot dogs. Lukas fell in love with the Lumpia, the basil, mozz, and tomatoes on toothpicks, and with the amazing hummus that someone brought. Proud of my boy who asks for more salad please. (Halo shining is in order tonight!)

Lukas enjoyed racing up and down hills and throwing himself onto the grass.

He was super excited to get to be in the bike parade- this time a seasoned parade attendant.

He had fun playing with Andrea's kids (and doesn't Leah look adorable in this 4th July tutu??)

4th of July celebrates the freedom to let it all hang out, and to put lots of mulch in places in might shouldn't go.

We parked somewhere and hiked across an overpass to find this awesome spot to watch the fireworks. A bit of a crazy trip getting there (see update to come), but so glad we got to enjoy popcorn and fireworks with good company. Lukas was a bit nervous about those big booms and watched the show from the safety of Jared's lap.

Thanks for a great time Gehmliches!
