We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

Why did it go PLOP?

Death is part of life and a safe topic of conversation around here. But sometimes it takes on a bit of an irreverent tone I suppose.

After Lukas' birthday party was over he was riding around the park 'loop' at Orchard park on a tricycle, and stopped at the gap in the fence, talking to Daddy.

All of a sudden there was a big plop. Just past the tricycle lie a squirrel that had fallen from the tree above.

Dead.

Lukas was baffled by it, and kept asking what happened? Then he'd want to walk back over to see it again, so up on daddy's shoulders they went to gawk at the dead. Again and again he'd ask, "Why did the squirrel go plop?"

And on the way home in the car he'd ask, "But why did it go plop?" Trying to stop laughing was useless, so we wiped our tears and kept explaining through giggles.

And again when he woke up the next day he asked, "Why did it go PLOP!"
and when we went back over to Orchard Park, he announced his need to see 'it' and went right over to the scene of the death. No chalk outlines. It'd vanished. Thank you grounds crew.
