We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

Three

Lukas' ACTUAL birthday.  Maybe he'll think it the ultimate April Fool's joke that we told him it was his birthday on the first. But then again on the second. I mean, why not just the whole week? We had a cupcake with candles at pretty much every meal til those suckers were devoured.

And I sang every time. As requested. I'm pretty sure that is the epitome of "birthday" around here. Candles, singing, and cupcakes.

That's why I'm sure he can't wait til his party where everyone will do Ring-Around-the Rosies til they all sit down, and all sing him Happy Birthday and watch him blow out the candles on his jillionth birthday cupcake (blueberry muffins).  And I melt. Right along side that candle. Every time that grin spreads across that face from ear to ear. We all feel happy together- the very essense of Doctrine & Covenants 50- light becometh light, we edify one another- just a most gratifying feeling that I never got from being a professional teacher- because this kiddo is mine for eternity. The weight of responsibility is different. The day to day pressure is different. The needs are different. The payouts are in greater dividends. The rewards are priceless and recorded for posterity. He is our beautiful child. We get to be HIS parents.

Man, we are all so lucky blessed! Grateful that the atonement makes it possible for a person's mistake to be turned into such sheer joy of our family, and healing joy of Lukas' birthmom. The sorrow we ever felt before has been so utterly diluted through the immense joy of this little person in our lives. He truly is a "bringer of light" as his name Lukas reminds us.

I don't know your situation or adoption story, but I know that you have the cutest little guy. And I am grateful to his birthmom for bringing him to you guys. He is lucky to have you and you seem even happier than you were when I knew you-and you have always been pretty happy. Love you!
