We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

Say it like a Dictator

When we read scriptures at night, it seems that some nights are more focused than others. Sometimes it feels like herding cats. Other nights it's like the angels must be clapping for joy because of their excitement at our temporary progress.

We've come up with a few little motivators over the last year that we've cycled through to help Lukas read, among which are letting him "read" (repeat back) through a megaphone, or while running circles around us, or while jumping only on the awesome squooshy fold-out mat on the ground, or withholding that drink of water til we're done (usually just drowned out the whole time hearing "I'm thirsty!" -"Ich habe DURST!") or repeating in sync with mom, or with dad. Lately, when we ask him to speak up and use his "big mouth"- the cue to open his mouth so we could understand him better -- this is what we get. Dictator voice. And it is SO SO funny, and SO hard not to laugh through the scripture stories when they're "read" this way.
