We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

Summer is coming!

My Own Mother's Day

...began in the morning by sleeping. Yes, gloriously sleeping til almost 8am. That's a miracle for me these days and it was divine. Jared and Lukas awoke me singing "Happy Mothers Day to you...Liebe Mama" and giving me a big card with all kinds of quotes from Lukas on it, which Jared crafted into a sweet poem:

Meine Mutter schon zwei Jahr',
Du bist einfach wunderbar,
Wunderbar für mich,
Mamili, ich liebe dich!

Machst Picknick Lunch und Abenteuer,
Hältst mich, wenn ich träum von Ungeheuer.

"Schönes Hemd, Mama", "lange Beine",
Komplimente, die ich wirklich meine.

"Mama, so albern, manchmal,"
Doch lehrst mich ABC & Zahl.

"Hey Lukas!", sagt der Baumschneidermann.
Danke für alles, was ich kann.
"Kann das", sagst du oft zu mir.
Für deine Liebe dank ich dir.

The boys made eggs, toast with jam, a tomato flower with guac- it looked and tasted amazing... and Lukas sat next to me and promptly wanted a bite. He's so cute.

At church they handed out chocolate covered strawberries, and in my mind I was planning a fondue party with friends so I could have more of that combination!! I was super happy to see my little man come from of nursery when church was over to hand me a picture he drew and a cupcake he helped with (which he gave gladly, but really really wanted to eat- haha!)

The camera had no batteries charged, but we won't forget the taste of the yummy homemade hamburgers, homemade buns, homemade sweet potato fries and all the yumminess of a German Prinzessin Lilifee Strawberry Torte that was to die for. Man, I should have gotten more than one box when we were there!!!!

To top it all off we had a great time playing cards with friends and I was SUPER grateful for a stress-free, fun, delicious Sunday. I was so grateful that Jared was so willing to jump in and let this day just form itself into so much fun! I am glad to be Lukas' mom. He's one sweet boy, a fun kid, and so clever he knocks my socks off. I don't know if any mom has ever felt so loved by their "Junge".

He saw me in this dress this Sunday and said, "Hi meine prinzessin Mama!"
and the other pictures are to remind me that he is "Not a Baby!" haha

Sending Signals

I'm driving with Lukas in the car to pick up Dad at school.

"Mama, doo-lit hören!" (Mama, hear doo-lit)
"Huh?"
"doo-lit hören!"
"Hmmm... was meinst du?" (What do you mean?)
"DOO-lit, DOO-lit, DOO-lit" (singing)
"Oh, the blinker?"
"Ja!"
(laughing to myself and smiling ear to ear) "OOooohhh!! At the next corner you can hear it!"
I set the blinker and turn at the next corner and hear:
"Oh yeAHUH!" and clapping.

Awesome.

All within 3 days.
Think I can return for a full refund?

"Why do you want to live here?"

That's what the apartment business manager asked us when it came time to sign a lease.
We told her about the need for green space for Lukas, and parks nearby, and space in the house to run around in during rainy season- and not too far from Sac State, and it even has a community garden.

Her eyes narrowed- "Do you know about this area?" (Insert sinking stomach here)

No, but I'm sure you're going to tell us!

And here was the gist of the "perfect place" we'd found to live in during the one year credentialing program at Sac State:

This place was one of the worst places in Sacramento. Basically a bunch of millionaires bought it, renovated it and did some major marketing. The walls here are very thin. (Is there a lot of violence?) Yes. (Greaaaaat.) We have armed guards here. The kids Lukas plays with on the playground will all swear (note to self when "head start" is on-site), and you might not want to hang around those parks alone with him. Gang activity is present, and is getting worse now that summer is coming. (Oh. My. Gosh.)

I felt SO greatful to this HONEST woman. She is worth more than rubies. Thank you.

We almost put our clean sweet little polar bear in an Exxon oil spill.

Add to the list if your last name is or ever has been Meredith!

Kasiah Banks has left a new comment: Never was an actual Meredith, but I spent enough time there to have some great memories of your mom. Always loved that she would let you meet me at the Food Lion, spoon in hand, ready for a tub of ice cream and the curb. We had a great time as kids. Gotta love both our moms for that!

M-finity has left a new comment: Kasiah was as much a part as any of the rest of us (during that period anyhow).
Paper Routes in Kasiah's neighborhood AND the two surrounding hers were AWESOME.
Carriage Hill was gleaned off Maps.Google search.
I also remember her PTA meeting in Austin, TX that we just HAD to accompany Mom to Austin and visit the Capitol Bldg, etc.
"Ew GROSS, it's a dead dog! ..... Let's go see it again."

Mom wrote: let me add a few more... being able to fit into one of my daughter's dresses to accompany her YW/YM group to the temple, sharing a carpool to work at Kings Dominion, Girls' Camp, duck pond, Ft. Worth science museum, International Wildlife Park, camping at Sequoia and the ice cold "bathtub", sewing, trips to the ER for stitches and broken bones, the "wee-wee way", and the list goes on....

Happy Birthday Justin!

Ten things we love about Justin:
1. He can play nicely in the sandbox!
2. He has an amazing talent for capturing expressions on paper/canvas.

3. He has a great art for telling stories so that you can't help but laugh.
4. He doesn't need a lot of "program" when we visit. Hanging out is just great.

5. He shares his inlaws with us.
6. He shares his kids with us.
7. He and his wife wrote me, hands down, more than ANYbody else on my mission
8. He was always nice to me in high school, although I was a dorky freshman when he was a senior

9. He uses his musical talent to serve and entertain. Notice the Uncle Wiggly box on top of the piano!!

10. He's one good lookin' guy.
