We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

So I'm still the stake music lady, and technically still have an actual calling to sing in the choir - um, yes. So now I have another assignment/calling, if you will.

So the calling is: primary pianist!! YAY! I'm so excited. It's the chance to practice a practical talent while serving in the church. Hooray for a few birds with one stone!

well, actually...

So I was at the Dollar Store the other day and have Lukas all wrapped up in the Moby-carrying him around, and as we're standing in the check out line an older lady starts googling over Lukas ("He's so happy" & "he's so cute" - all true, and yes, I'm so thrilled- still, and no- I never get tired of hearing how amazing this little man is) So, back to the story- Then she says "He must look a lot like his daddy because he doesn't have your long thin face"

Here comes the good angel, bad angel moment.

First I'm thinking, I have a long face? Mostly though, inside I'm laughing because I'm saying "Well, actually I don't know what the birth father looks like!" and in my minds eye I'm seeing the utterly shocked look of a way-over-the-hiller about to turn five shades redder than her already red cheek blush. I think I just smiled and said- "Yeah. He has big blue eyes, huh!" Oh, to relive that moment just for the fun of it!

Little Roley Poley

As of this past Thursday Lukas can roll over!! YAY!! Since the day little Hazel came to visit he's been trying as hard as ever, and now he is getting faster and faster! The look on his face is a mixture of surprise, and ultimate victory!

Now that he's 5+months old he is active as ever:
He smiles at everybody and giggles for long periods of time.
He grabs everything, including mom's hair, our sleeves, little tiger, and little elephant, his pacifier, our food... you name it, he's trying to grab it!
He sits in the Johnny Jump Up for a good ten minutes, happily bouncing!
He can sit up in the Bumbo chair and always smiles when we put him in there, like it's his little throne... maybe because it's up on the table while we're eating lunch or dinner. ;)
He sucks that little thumb like it's going out of style, and still slobbers like a pro.
He eats 40 oz a day now (5 bottles) and still sleeps through the night from 9pm til around 7am.
He still gets excited to ride in the Moby (waving arms and smiling face seems to indicate excited!)
He ate his first real food on Tuesday in that cool net pacifier. It was a piece of banana, and he first licked it (we squooshed some out of the netting, and then, upon realizing that it had a pacifier handle, grabbed it and went to town!! Yes, we'll go with veggies from here out for awhile, but we were so eager to try it, and he was absolutely delighted!!
He LOVES the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, and has even begun turning the pages!! He smiles with giggles upon the mentioning of the title, and we read it after every feeding.
He still hasn't watched any TV. He has skyped with Grandma & Grandpa in Germany a couple times, but we're keeping screen things to a minimum.
He looks for Jared when Jared leaves the room to get something, go to work, etc. It is so cute to see how much this little one is attached!!
Oh, and Amy, he giggles at Ravioli AND Graham Cracker, but mostly at the German words for stream and shish-ka-bobs :)
He can stand on the pews at church for quite some time now, and hold himself up by holding on the the back of the pew looking at everyone.
The song "reverently, quietly" lulls him right to sleep...like Pavlov's experiment!
He stares at the hanging wooden airplane with great concentration and utter amazement. It captures his attention for whole minutes! (he is 5 months old)
He shakes that rattle with amazing gusto, and doesn't mind smacking himself in the face with it!
Tolerates tummy time for 10 mins+now, and smiles and coos. Today, had his hand on my knee too... aww.
He makes awesome rasberries, sometimes getting older children in trouble who follow his lead -LOL!
Still no teeth, but amazingly strong slobber skills.
Still the biggest blue eyes I've seen!

Offending witches

I'm helping plan a huge Halloween party for the end of the month. I was asked that- if I decide to dress up (I do) that I please not wear anything gory: hatchets, blood, etc. (I won't. Lukas would FREAK!) Oh, and if you decide to dress up as a witch or a wizard, just be sure you don't wear any big warts, crooked noses, ugliness. (I'm thinking we're still on the gory issue. But no.) They continue-- After all, in northern Cali there are real witches and wizards, and we don't want to offend them.

My question: So are they coming to our party???!!! Just wondering. Maybe our party will be watched through a crystal ball or a couldron picture backdropped by cobwebs, fingernails, and motor oil too- stirring up in my witches brew, I got MAGIC, alacazamacazo0!!!

We're back in business!

Everybody's healthy again (knock on wood) and the blog posts/videos/pics have all been updated! Thank you to some wonderful friends who check up on us and help us through with their good humor! And thank goodness BYU won against Oklahoma to keep spirits high on Saturday!! GO COUGS!!

And boy does time fly, eh? Lukas is 5 months old!! I'm still amazed by this little one! I love every moment he's in. He's so cute! (I say this totally exhausted by his not wanting to nap anymore during the day... hmmmm)
