We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are." ~Marjorie Pay Hinckley~

4 weeks old today!

Happy 4 weeks old Lukas! To celebrate the little guy kicked back a few bottles of milk, and I made chicken braid for dinner! MMMMM. Over the past week Lukas has gone from projectile vomiting to sleeping sweetly. What a saint... at least until his little body starts changing timers :)

For those of you who have ever gone long periods of time with little sleep, you will appreciate THIS mom moment yesterday. It was 2am and I went to the kitchen to get a bottle ready. Lukas has had just bad air bubbles lately that we tried out those drop-ins bottles with the liners that you put in the plastic part. Yeah, that's where all systems failed. Ever wanna know what happens when you pour 4 oz water into one of those without the liner? Yeah, just ask me. I laughed out loud alone in the kitchen as I put the soaking wet paper towels into the sink. I feel in some weird way that I've just joined this worldwide sorority who knows sadly what it feels like to be that out of it!

Pics from Lukas' first soccer game, and some cute faces!

Today at Lukas' doctor's appointment he was happy as ever. The doctor is still so super excited about him (as are we, of course!) and here are his new stats:

Weight: 11 lbs. 6 oz.
Length: 22 3/4 inches

His head is fitting into the car seat head positioner much better now :) and he's eating well :) The doctor is pleased with his weight gain and overall demeanor and we'll see him again at two months old!

Happy 3 weeks Lukas! You bring us so much joy and we are so grateful to have you in our family!!

On another note, Jared is out the door to give a presentation, and has been getting all his reading and school work in between helping feed, burp and change Lukas. He's LOVING being a dad and it sure is sweet to watch him with baby Lukas.

Recent adventures for Lukas have been:
-Throwing up all over me
-Trying on the Fireman's hat from PICNIC day that Grandma snagged for him. It rocks with the onesie he has on!
-Throwing up all over dad & getting a total rinse down after
-Taking a walk in the stroller (well, we walked, he just layed there smiling)around Orchard Park yesterday evening.

Red Carpet Time: Guinness Book of World Records...

...for the most spoiled baby in the world! On Saturday night, the paparazzi was clicking pictures while the celebrity of the party showed up. Lukas gurgled and made his little "O" mouth while women oooed and ahhhed over this adorable little man who just showed up (with Dad) for his baby shower thrown by some really sweet women at church. Lukas got lots of new clothes, books, pacifiers to hold fruit and crushed ice later on, a ball from Eli, toys and a neat calendar upon which we can write in all his stats and firsts, which I thought was so cool since those things come atcha so fast! I smiled so much that my jaw muscles were sore, and could still not believe that after so long it was finally me sitting in that chair surrounded by presents to open for a baby that we welcomed into our home. All three of us feel so blessed by so many wonderful members of our church and by friends and family who have poured out their love and congratulations in boatloads :)

Here are some of my favorite shots of the night, followed by a slide show of all the pics taken. Just to warn you, it's a lot of just me opening presents.

Every year UC Davis hosts a huge event called Picnic Day, where everyone in the city comes to campus to celebrate dogs, cows, food, cultures, and bands. There's so much going on that it's hard to know where to start! We saw dogs catching frisbees, racing head to head with other dogs in different races - (and oh how we all cheer when the little dogs beat out the big ones!haha) We saw old-school hook & ladder fire trucks, complete with that huge circle people used to jump into when trapped in tall buildings. We went by a booth with students from Nigeria and they wrapped my head in a traditional headdress with a huge wrap cloth around my waist too. We saw belly dancers that really put a whole lot of belly into belly dancing, small Japanese children doing traditional hat dances, and even some paramedics who were giving some people care who were suffering from heat stroke I think. There was also roach races, cow milking and daschund races, but the wait was too long for the hot weather. We had fun walking around campus though, and Lukas did great in his first huge outing in the stroller. :)

On a winning STREAK!

THURSDAY - April 16th
Today we decided to take pics of Lukas in the nude. Lukas was a great sport about it, so we took tons of pics. Here's one of the best shots of the day with another one that's just cute:)

Trip down memory lane...

Lukas and Dad hung out today while mom and Grandma drove to Fair Oaks to see the house where mom grew up and to talk to the neighbors across the street from her. The couple, now in their 80s, had a daughter named Cherrill, who introduced my mom to the church when she was in her 20s. This girl's mom, Mrs. Anderson, was somebody my mom really looked up to as a good role model for what a mom should be like. Because of this family I have been greatly blessed! Mr. and Mrs. Anderson had just tons of photo albums of them with their friends, and gave us tons of pictures of my grandfather, of whom to that day I'd only seen one picture!! While we were traveling down memory lane, Jared was a super dad, and you see that Lukas just loves his dad :)

Friday night lights...

What a blessing are grandmas! Jared and I were able to steal away for a couple of hours to watch a really intense movie, after which I was sure to scan my surroundings carefully for at least 10 minutes to be sure there wasn't some hitman after me. This makes me think of a famous saying in our house when I watch a new flick: "Jess, it's just a movie." LOL

Also fun was riding our bikes into downtown Davis to and from the movie, and getting some of Bistro 33's famous "Sprecher Rootbeer" afterwards. Davis people, you've gotta try it.
Thanks Grandma!

1st Doctor Visit in Davis, CA

This morning after a visit from our case worker, this little guy was off to the doctor's office for his two-week check up! First and foremost, Lukas stripped down to get weighed and promptly peed everywhere (that's the way Lukas!) His pediatrician is very kind and attentive and at his professional assessment of Lukas said, and I quote "He's just perfect!" YAY! How that warms a mom's heart. He answered all of our questions, and said that with regular visits he'll always keep up on Lukas' progress and let us know what should come next and when. I was so excited that he got to visit a real pediatrician and felt lucky that we found one just so nice. He also commented on how Lukas is such a mellow little guy, and we have just got to agree! What a sweetheart! Oh, and did I mention that he's now 10 lbs 11 0z. Awww, yeah!

That's what Jessica calls Lukas' umbilical cord, and it did come off on day 12 (April 14th): I had just changed the little guy, and as we sat down on the couch to enjoy some formula -well, I sat down and Lukas enjoyed the Formula- I noticed a little plastic square on his diaper. Quickly I realized that it was the "shrink-wrapped" remainder of his umbilical cord. So we interrupted the feeding session to document the momentous occasion. Grandma took a few pictures and then Lukas showed his excitement with a major burp. When Jessica came back from tutoring, we took some more pics with the proud mom who exclaimed jumping up and down: "His extension cord fell off!" Later that night, he smiled for the first time earning lots of oohs and aahs from his excited audience.

Easter Egg Hunt!!

Easter was a real hit, literally, as you will see with later pictures of the Easter Egg Bash. I think that this has officially become a new family tradition: We made a bracket, and each brought our strongest Easter egg to crash against the others. So after a huge dinner of ham, potatoes, carrots, couscous yumminess, and brownies and cinnamon rolls, it was off to the tournament!! The pictures tell all!

On the Saturday before Easter we just had a lot of fun together as a family. The white outfit he is wearing is very special because it was the outfit that all of my brothers and I wore as babies (not at the same time of course) and it was neat to have our little baby wear it now too. As you will see, Lukas was pretty okay with pictures initially, and slept through most of the Easter egg hunt. He did eat lunch there :) and even searched for eggs with Dad. That afternoon we took Lukas out to sit on the blanket that Shar made him and take pictures. He sat in his Easter basket, and had a few pics where he's looking to catch a long throw or to get a hallelujah. It's funny. Hope you enjoy em! As one of the last photos says so well, he is definitely "WORTH THE WAIT!"
